Academic Plan of Study

Academic Advising and Plan of Study

My graduate major is Statistical Science in Volgenau School of Engineering. Statistical science is regarded as one of the oldest and most successful information technology subjects. It focuses on the conversion of raw data into information. Moreover, in this program, students study topics such as Applied Statistics, Statistical Inference, Deterministic Models, Analytics and Decision Analysis and so on. Students also must complete the 12-credit core requirements for the degree. Grades of B- or better are required in two of the core courses: Applied Probability and Applied Statistics I.

This degree requires 30 credits to graduate, including 12 credits of core courses and 12 credits of methodology courses. Methodology courses may be chosen from any STAT courses numbered 540-775. Student also needs to elect 6 credits of elective courses.

I have three goals during my master degree’s study. Firstly, I want to get the required grades and pass the pathway program on time. Second, learn more statistical knowledge and improve skills in this major. Thirdly, do some research about statistics and publish some paper.

Now I am in INTO Mason Pathway program, so I just have advisor in INTO, his name is James B Jones (jjones12@gmu.edu). In my major, every course’s grades should be higher than B and GPA should higher than 3.0. I plan to complete my courses in 2017 fall semester and international students should choose at least 9 credits each semester. So I make a plan like the table before. When I have an advisor in the future, I am going to meet him or her at least twice a semester for choosing the courses and how to complete courses well.
